The St. Andrew's Society of The Netherlands was formed in 1985. Its aims are to promote Scottish culture and, by doing so, raise funds for charities in Scotland and The Netherlands.
The principal occasion, St. Andrew's Day [30th November] is celebrated in traditional formal style with a St. Andrew's Ball. Other more informal events, such as Ceilidhs, are held from time to time.
Charities which have been supported in past years include the Children's Hospice
Association, Scotland [CHAS]; the Dunblane Foundation; Imperial Cancer Research;
the Council of Homeless Young People [CHYP]; the Piping Centre in Glasgow; Clini
Clowns; and for November 2010 the charity was KiKa [children with cancer]. The November
2011 charity was MyelomaUK -
In addition, the Society runs a Reel Club when members and friends can learn or simply
enjoy Scottish Country dancing. The emphasis is on enjoyment -
The Society is run by a committee, elected annually by its members. Volunteers are always welcome to help organise and run the social functions or join the committee.
Annual membership, inclusive of Reel Club attendance, is €150.
Membership, excluding Reel Club attendance, is €50 + €10 per session . These rates are reviewed annually at the Society's AGM.
